Springer, New Mexico- located on the Santa Fe Trail- offers an affordable, friendly rural lifestyle and pleasant climate. The population of the town hovers around 1,200 ft. despite its size, Springer is close to many cultural and outdoor opportunities. within an hour is the town of Taos, a famous art destination - and three snow skiing venues: Angel Fire, Sipapu, and Taos Ski Valley. The Santa Fe Opera is one and a half hours away. many additional recreational opportunities include fishing in springer lake (prize-winning pike); camping, picnicking and hiking in the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge.

Northeast New Mexico was central to many events in the history of the Old West.  The old County Courthouse in Springer is home to the Santa Fe Trail Museum and Historical Society.  It features a collection of memorabilia depicting the history of the Trail and local pioneer families.

Springer is strategically located on interstate 25 halfway between Albuquerque and Denver. Interstate 25 connects the United States to the Mexican and Canadian borders. Tens of thousands of vehicles pass Springer via I-25 daily.

Springer Municipal Airport does not offer commercial service, but with its 5,000-foot runway, it can easily accommodate small jets. BNSF Railroad, the major force behind Springer’s early development, still passes through the town, and Amtrak is available 38 miles north at Raton.  Commercial air service is available in Albuquerque, and Pueblo and Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Visiting Springer

Located on the Santa Fe Trail, Springer is the "old west town" that celebrates its history. The Santa Fe Trail Museum and Historic society is located in the old court house. The museum includes a fine collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the history of the trail and local ranching pioneers. As with many town in the west, Springer came to life in 1879 with the arrival of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroads. The community was a hub of trade for the region. Many buildings from this period still stand.

 Outdoor Recreation

Springer lake, four miles outside of town, is a premier fisherman lake known for its prize winning pike, its also a great camping spot. Charrette Lakes makes a great area for camping, boating and fishing for rainbow trout. Charrette Lakes are located 14 miles south of Springer.

Maxwell Wildlife Refuge is about 12 miles north of springer via I-25, wildlife can be viewed year round and the refuge also offers camping, picnicking and hiking.

Cimarron Canyon State Park is located 34 miles west of Springer and offers camping,hiking, and fishing.

Sugarite Canyon State park is located near Raton, 35 miles north of Springer, and offers camping, hiking, fishing, boating and winter sports.

Taos and Taos Pueblo, are about one hour away by car, and the world renown Santa Fe Opera can be reached in two hours.
